Through its involvement in local and national industry professional organizations, CMA has been instrumental in developing the ethics standards for its industry and in advocating for continual ethics awareness.

Ethics Chair

President Judi Phares served on the Standards of Professional Conduct (Ethics) Committee of the National Board of Certification for Community Association Manager (NBC-CAM) from 1995-2004; served as Chair of the Committee and is a charter member.  During her tenure, Judi drew on her own business philosophies and means of operation to help establish the organization's ethical standards.

About NBC-CAM

The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) administers the Certified Manager of Community Associations® (CMCA®) certification program. NBC-CAM is affiliated with Community Associations Institute (CAI), which provides education and resources to community association owners, managers, and other industry professionals.

In order to maintain and enhance the credibility of the NBC-CAM certification program (CMCA-Certified Manager of Community Associations), the Board of NBC-CAM has adopted Standards of Professional Conduct and enforcement procedures to allow consumers and others to bring complaints concerning a CMCA to the Board. The committee is responsible for evaluating and imposing sanctions, if necessary, to ensure that consumers may rely on the CMCA program and those individuals carrying the CMCA are held to the highest standards of professional conduct.

CMA Honored with Prestigious Ethics Awards

CMA was selected as a 2006 winner of the American Business Ethics AwardCMA was selected as a 2006 recipient of the prestigious American Business Ethics Award. 

 The company was also honored as a winner of the Greater Dallas Business Ethics Award.Established in 1994, the American Business Ethics Award recognizes companies that exemplify high standards of ethical behavior in their everyday business conduct and in response to specific crises or challenges. Through the awards, the Society of Financial Service Professionals (www.financialpro.org) honors and showcases businesses whose ethical corporate conduct can serve as role models of business integrity.

In accepting the award, CMA President and CEO Judi Phares, said, "It's gratifying to be recognized as notable by an organization that has set a high benchmark for business ethics. Plano CEO Wins National Industry Award

NBC-CAM Barbara Byrd Keenan Award
CMA President and CEO Judi Phares accepted the NBC-CAM Barbara Byrd Keenan Award at the CAI conference in Las Vegas.

Judi M. Phares, president and CEO of CMA, was awarded the Barbara Byrd Keenan Award by the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM).  Phares was honored at for her "exceptionally valuable" contribution to community association management certification. 

Phares is a past chair of NBC-CAM, which administers the only national certification program for community association managers.  She holds credentials as both a Certified Manager of Community Associations®, CMCA®, and a Professional Community Association Manager®, PCAM®, and has been a leader in establishing professional standards for the community association management industry. 

"In the past 20 years, our industry has made great progress in setting professional standards and certifying credentials," said Phares.  "I'm deeply honored to receive this recognition for what has been my long-standing passion, to continually raise  the bar toward professional excellence."

NBC-CAM grants the CMCA® credential to individuals who demonstrate fundamental knowledge and expertise in managing homeowner and condominium associations and cooperatives.  The non-profit credentialing agency is affiliated with Community Associations Institute (CAI), which provides education and resources to community association homeowners, managers, and other industry professionals.
