HOAs in Texas

Texas has about 25,000 to 30,000 property owners associations, according to an estimate from national data prepared by the Community Association Institute (CAI), a national organization that represents HOAs.

These associations represent about 750,000 condominium units and 1.9 million lots in single-family, residential subdivisions.

HOAs in Texas house 4.8 million people who contribute about $3.2 billion in assessments each year.

  • CAI estimates that 15-25 percent of common-interest communities are self-managed, meaning they do not employ an onsite manager or use the services of an association management company.

These are estimates based on U.S. Census publications, American Housing Survey (AHS), IRS Statistics of Income Reports, California and Florida state-specific information, related association industry trade groups and collaboration with industry professionals.
